Climate Fitness Center

for Sustainable Building and Living

Design Counseling / using former vacant spaces

Sustainable climate-neutral building and living and all the associated facets are communicated in a playful way and made tangible through physical activity using fitness elements, i.e. with dumbbells, punching bags, skipping and on bicycles.

World's first climate fitness center opens in Moosburg in Carinthia, Austria, June 2023

Even small changes in everyday life contribute to our ecological footprint. It is therefore helpful to make complex and important concepts such as CO2 tangible. At the first climate fitness center in Moosburg, the approximate amount of CO2 saved is communicated with every fitness exercise and attention is drawn to climate-neutral construction and living.

Communicating CO2 savings is difficult because we can't smell it and it is usually expressed in tons. If we break the unit down into a form that we understand, to kilograms, and at the same time make it physically tangible, CO2 can be understood in a new way. It becomes comprehensible. The image of 200 balloons alone, which represent the mass of 1 kilo of CO2, immediately remains in our minds.

Raising awareness of climate-friendly building and living

In addition to talks, counseling and presentations that inspire, you will also receive a practical training plan for a more sustainable life within your own four walls. Incidentally, the "training" is suitable for athletes of all ages and fitness levels! "Building and housing is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and is responsible for almost 40% of CO2 emissions worldwide, which is why this area is very important to us in the municipality and region," says Deputy Mayor Roland Gruber, who is responsible for building, mobility and energy in the municipality.

Lifting weights as a symbolic load

Climate-neutral building and living and all the associated facets - such as new construction methods and building materials, the promotion of conversion and renovation, the usable garden, the many possibilities of alternative mobility, the important saving of energy costs and good and healthy nutrition - are communicated in a playful way and made tangible and through physical activity using fitness elements, i.e. with dumbbells, punching bags, jumping and on bicycles.
